Gerhardt, a skilled meat cutter, was encouraged by Esther to open a shop of their own. When they found a local butcher shop for sale but couldn’t afford it, a generous farmer—determined to keep the town’s butcher—loaned them the money with nothing more than a handshake. On Friday, June 13, 1947, Schmidt’s Meat Market opened its doors in Nicollet, Minnesota.Through hard work, family values, and their signature German smokehouse flavor, Gerhardt and Esther built more than a business—they built a legacy. Generations later, Cheryl Schmidt Davis proudly continues that story with The Good Schmidt, a line of bold, smoky sauces crafted to bring people together around great food.From our kitchen to yours, we’re here to keep the Schmidt tradition alive—one bottle at a time.
